Xavi Hernandez Considers Manchester United: According to Catalan outlets SPORT and Mundo Deportivo, which both cited anonymous sources, FC Barcelona legend and former head coach Xavi Hernandez has decided to consider taking the now-vacant Manchester United manager’s job, even though the Premier League giants may launch another offensive.
After United’s first team lost 2-1 to West Ham over the weekend, dropping them to 14th position in the English Premier League with just 11 points from nine games, the club sacked Erik ten Hag early on Monday afternoon in Europe.
Despite bringing two cup triumphs to Old Trafford, the Dutchman’s fate appeared to have been written for a while, and it always seemed more like a “when” than a “if” the INEOS group would show him the exit door.
Because of this, Xavi has been on United’s owners’ wishlist as they search for a potential replacement for a while.
Mundo Deportivo claims that Red Devils executives met with Xavi in Barcelona a week ago but were unsuccessful in persuading him to accept their offer.
Xavi Hernandez Considers Manchester United:
Both MD and SPORT claim that Xavi has made up his mind for the time being, but it is anticipated that another “serious offensive” will be launched to persuade the great midfielder, who as a Barca player owns two Champions League final victories over United in 2009 and 2011.
After nearly three exhausting years in the club of his life’s hotseat, which is currently filled by his replacement Hansi Flick, Xavi swore to take a year-long sabbatical when he was ousted by Blaugrana’s president Joan Laporta in May.
According to the Catalan media, Xavi reportedly rejected an offer from Roma when Daniele De Rossi, a fellow midfield club legend, was fired. Because of this, he has also rejected United’s approach thus far.
The jobless Edin Terzic, who led Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final last season before losing to Real Madrid at Wembley, Thomas Frank of Brentford, and Ruben Amorim of Sporting Lisbon are other possible successors in Manchester.
