The Barcelona veteran: One of Barcelona’s main players as they crushed Young Boys 5-0 Friday night in the UEFA Champions League was Inigo Martinez.
Hansi Flick has come to trust the veteran defender so much because he was rock-solid defensively the entire game and scored and assisted on one goal apiece.
Given how many injuries the team has suffered this season, it was only natural that some Barça supporters were concerned when Martinez requested to leave the field in the closing minutes of the game.
Martinez will be ready for Alaves
Martinez did finish yesterday night’s game with some muscle soreness, but fortunately, SPORT claims that he will be healthy and available for selection when Barcelona plays Alaves this coming weekend.
According to the article, Martinez did suffer some minor muscle soreness, but it wasn’t a big deal and he could have easily finished the game on the field.
But after securing the victory, the defender and manager Hansi Flick concluded it was time for him to be replaced. Andres Cuenca made his debut in that role.
The Barcelona veteran, who had muscular soreness against Young Boys:
After being substituted off, the former captain of Athletic Club appeared uncomfortable on the bench and was interacting with the personnel.
However, there will be no cause for concern as everything seems to point to Martinez being at Flick’s disposal when Barca travels to Vitoria to play Alaves.
The 33-year-old player has been performing at his best lately, and his play last night was really amazing.
The seasoned defender’s leadership and expertise have also been apparent in a team full of youthful talent.
Under Flick, Martinez has been a constant in the squad, just missing out on the loss to Osasuna. Even though he is healthy for the Alaves match, it would be fascinating to see if the manager decides to ease him up and give him another respite.
