Ricky Ponting surprises everyone: Last Tuesday, Australian legend player Ricky Ponting was named head coach of Punjab Kings, taking Trevor Bayliss’ role at the struggling IPL team.
On Tuesday, Australian legend the late Ricky Ponting was named the head coach of Punjab Kings, replacing Trevor Bayliss’ role at the underachieving IPL team. The former skipper of Australia recently relocated to Delhi Capitals, where he had spent seven years, to Punjab Panthers. “The four-year contract was signed by Ponting yesterday. That will take him that long to assemble the team. Ponting will decide who gets to phone one of the support workers, an IPL source informed PTI.
Ricky Ponting surprises everyone by signing with a new IPL franchise:
The Delhi Capitals rose to prominence under Ponting, and although though they made it to the final in 2020, they were never able to win the coveted championship. He was the Mumbai Indians’ coach as well.
Since the IPL’s founding in 2008, Punjab has also never triumphed, therefore the four co-owners will be hoping that the skipper who won the World Cup leads them all the way.
Punjab is one squad that is frequently criticized for their continuous cutting and changing. Their only final participation occurred back in 2014. They placed ninth out of ten teams earlier this year and have not even placed in the top five in the previous seven seasons.
For the previous two seasons, Baylish led the team captained by the now-retired Shikhar Dhawan. Sunil Joshi looked after the spinners, Charles Langveldt was the coach for quick bowling, and Sanjay Bangar oversaw cricket development.
Anil Kumble coached Punjab Kings before Bayliss, although they never achieved victory.
Singh Arshdeep Jitesh Krishna, Kagiso Rabada, the, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, and Jonny Bairstow constitute Punjab’s excellent core participants, but the team hasn’t produced any outcomes. This season’s Punjab Kings proved unremarkable throughout, but two players stood out: Ashutosh Sharma and uncapped Shashank Singh.
