Ranji Trophy 2024: Gujarat skipper Chintan Gaja feels optimistic about his team’s chances in his second season as leader after two years of rebuilding.
With new head coach Vineet Saxena behind them, two-time champion Hyderabad takes on Gujarat at Gymkhana Grounds this Friday to start their Ranji Trophy campaign. The former batter for Rajasthan is hopeful about a strong opening performance on a new pitch.
“Developing a winning process is our main goal; hitting targets is not.” Keeping up momentum requires a strong start, Vineet observed while observing practice sessions featuring left-arm spinner Tanay Thyagarajan.
Ranji Trophy 2024:
According to Vineet, Tilak Varma and Mohammed Siraj’s absence from the national squad due to international duty provides an excellent chance for other players to establish themselves. In Varma’s absence, G. Rahul Singh will be the team’s leader.
The balance of this Hyderabad team, in spite of the large number of young players, is outstanding; there’s a nice blend of youthful energy and experience. We have a number of all-round players, and Saranu Nishant, a 19-year-old fast bowler, seems like an intriguing prospect, Vineet continued. “We need to get off to a good start this season, even though the pitch is unpredictable.”
Under the direction of new coach Ramesh Powar, Gujarat captain Chintan Gaja feels upbeat about his team’s chances going into his second season in charge following two years of rebuilding. Gaja emphasizes that the team’s potential success stems from their skillfully blended youth and experience.
“Priyank Panchal, Arjan, Siddharth Desai, and myself are senior players ready to raise the bar. We’ve had several young players come up from the under-23 level,” Gaja remarked. It appears like an excellent pitch, thus a high-scoring contest is possible. We have Siddharth Desai, our main spinner, who has been reliable for years, and Rinkesh Vaghela, an off-spinner from the under-23 team, who appears to be a wonderful prospect.
“We’re aiming for the championship, but our first goal is to qualify for the knockouts,” Gaja said in closing.
