New World Test Championship Points Table: Pakistan’s nine-team ICC World Test Championship Points Table declined due to an embarassing loss to England in the Multan Test.
During the first Test match in Lahore on Friday, Britain’s bowlers, led by spinner Jack Leach, destroyed the country’s batting lineup in their subsequent innings. The match was flipped on its side by an unprecedented partnership between Joe Root and Harry Brook, which is which created the foundation for the historical victory. On Day 5, England’s attack swiftly drove out the final four Pakistani batsmen, dismissing the hosts for 200 runs to win by an innings and 47 runs and take the series’ first wicket. Thanks to the victory, England is now ranked fourth in the World Test Championship points standings, with Pakistan at the bottom.
England’s victory over Pakistan has reignited their dreams of making the World Tour Final and kept them competitive. However, the tourists would need to maintain this hot form if they are to become genuine contenders in this WTC cycle, as there are still three matches left in the series.
The points table shows that the Indian team is still ranked first in the rankings, with Australia, Sri Lanka, and England following. Pakistan, however, is ranked ninth.
The current disparity between the types of cricket played by India and Pakistan is evident in the distance between their positions on the WTC table.
Regarding the Multan Test, Pakistan faced the possibility of losing the match the day before when Salman and Aamer Jamal combined for a score of 82–6.
However, the pair completed the rest of the innings and forced England to wait another twelve overs on the last day of play until Leach hit a boundary to let the rain pour in.
After a brilliant return catch by Leach, Naseem Shah was dismissed for six and Shaheen Shah Afridi was dismissed for 10, thereby ending Pakistan’s second innings.
Abrar Ahmed, the last guy, was sent to the hospital with a high temperature, which prevented him from batting.
Following 1,379 runs to be scored for the loss of just 17 wickets on a flat field at Multan Stadium, Pakistan’s collapse signaled a swift turnaround in the contest.

In England’s massive 823-7 declared, Brook hammered 317 and Root a record-breaking 262, giving the visitors a 267-run lead.
After Pakistan’s formidable 556 first-innings total, England’s partnership of 454 wickets, their longest partnership for any wicket in Test cricket history, gave the visitors an unlikely edge.
But by the end of play on a dead pitch on the fourth day, England had taken complete control of the match with the hosts struggling at 152-6 and had amassed the fourth-highest Test innings total of 823-7.
In the process, Root broke through as England’s all-time leading run scorer in Test cricket.
Since taking over as captain of Pakistan last year, Shan Masood has already suffered six straight losses, three of them in Australia and two at home to Bangladesh.
The hosts’ last victory over South Africa occurred in February 2021; they have now lost 11 Test matches at home.
The second Test begins on Tuesday at the same location, and the third Test begins on October 24 in Rawalpindi.
