In the final ODI versus Pakistan, the 29-year-old batsman-wicketkeeper will also serve as skipper. Regular skipper Pat Cummins, Mitchell Stark, Josh Hazlewood, Marnus Labuschagne, and Steve Smith will not play during the 50-over match since they are preparing to play in the Border-Gavaskar Tournament.

Due to Travis Head & regular captain Mitchell Marsh’s paternity leave, Inglis assumes the role of skipper for the Twenty20 Internationals. Inglis will be the 30th captain of Australia in the ODI form and the 14th captain in the T20I format.

“Josh is a highly regarded player on and off the pitch and an essential member of the ODI and T20I teams,” stated George Bailey, the president of the national selection panel.

“He will contribute excellent tactical acumen with an upbeat attitude to the position, having already led Australia A. Senior players including Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, as well as newcomers like Matt Short and Adam Zampa, will be offering Josh with excellent assistance.”

With the senior players scheduled to take a break, Australia’s team for thev match against Pakistan in Perth has been expanded to include wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe and pacers Xavier Bartlett and Spencer Johnson.
