In the Supercopa de España: The Spanish Football Federation has declared that extra time will no longer be used, in accordance with the teams’ desires.

Increased tournaments translate into more matches and more chances for the organizing institutions to make money through sponsorships, stadium tickets, media rights, and other revenue-generating endeavors. But teams, players, and coaches are beginning to demand answers and declare enough is enough. As a result, steps are being taken, including the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s (RFEF) announcement this Thursday.
In the Supercopa de España, Extra Time Is Out:
The Federation officially announced on October 10 that extra time will not be used in the Supercopa de España. As it did in previous competitions like the Copa de SM el Rey and the Copa Federación, the RFEF is reportedly reacting to the wishes of the teams taking part in these events and hopes to reduce competition minutes for the players. In the event of a draw at the conclusion of regulation time, matches in this competition will no longer be decided by the customary additional half-hour.
The clubs that will be playing in the Supercopa 2024 are the clubs of Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Athletic Club, & RCD Mallorca. “The Royal Spanish Football Federation’s Executive Committee has approved a change to the Competition Rules and Regulatory Bases that would remove extra time from the Supercopas de España for both the men’s and women’s divisions. With this change, the RFEF complies with the requests of the clubs taking part in the competitions and aims to reduce the amount of time players spend in competition, just as it has done in other competitions such as the Copa de SM el Rey or the Copa Federación, and in line with other similar competitions being held on a European and international scale.”
