Australian star lies on the boundary line: In the cricket World Cup 2024 Group A match against Pakistan on Friday, Australia faced an additional whammy. The reigning champions triumphed in their third straight match, crushing Pakistan by nine wickets; however, in the course of the victory, two of their most significant players, including the captain Alyssa Healy, suffered injuries.
Just four deliveries into the game, right-arm pacer she Vlaeminck dislocated her bowling elbow. Later in the game, Healy, Alyssa seemed to have pulled up her hamstring while recovering for a second run. She had to retire hurt because she was unable to bat any longer.
Playing her first World Cup match in six years, Vlaeminck was added to the team to give Australia’s fast bowling unit additional depth. However, just four balls into the game, she sustained a serious injury when attempting to stop Pakistan batsman Muniba Ali from hitting a boundary. Positioned at short third, Vlaeminck pursued the ball all the way to the finish line before attempting to stop it from hitting the ropes. However, she was thrown airborne and forced to fall awkwardly on her shoulders due to a knee that became embedded in the ground.
Australian star lies on the boundary line:
With a pained expression on her face, she quickly grasped her shoulder and lay on the boundary line. The turn of events clearly worried her Australian teammates. The physiotherapists raced to her aid. The 25-year-old’s elbow was moved, but it’s still unclear if any damage occurred.
This was the third dislocation of Vlaeminck’s shoulder. In the 2017–18 season, while playing for Victoria, she dislocated her left shoulder. Later, she had corrective surgery after she dislocated the same shoulder again while bowling during the Australia A tour of England during the Women’s Ashes last year.
“It’s terrible to watch your friend lose.”
Australia all-rounder Ash Gardner said, “It’s obviously horrible seeing one of your mates go down and knowing Tay’s road to get back here.” We all felt terrible for her because she puts in probably more work than anybody else I know, so we were all shocked to hear of her latest accident.
There were a few individuals who were visibly upset and such, and I believe that just goes to demonstrate the concern we have for Tay and the rest of our team. We had to rapidly reorganize after witnessing her abrupt demise because she had worked so hard to earn her place here.”
Barely two hours later, skipper Healy staggered off the pitch with a scowl on her face, just as the Australian players were starting to recover from this.
Following footage of Healy hobbling up the stairs to the changing room, Cricket Australia declared that the player had suffered a serious injury to her right foot. We had arranged for her to get scans on Saturday, following which her level of involvement in the competition would probably be ascertained.
The fact that Australia is able to overcome these obstacles cannot be disputed.
On Sunday, Australia will play their final group-stage encounter against India.
